The Group of Building Environmental Research, (GRBES), operates under the frame of the Section of Applied Physics, Department of Physics of the University of Athens. It carries out specific research and development programs on the field of energy and environmental quality of the built environment. It is equipped with all the necessary scientific instrumentation to carry out specific energy and environmental experimental studies. In the following the main equipment of the Group is described.

MOBILE ENERGY BUS

Portable energy and environmental bus including a weather station for measuring temperature, wind speed and direction at different heights. Sensors are mounted on telescopic mast, which extends up to 20 meters high. Data is stored in a laptop pc.

GLOBE THERMOMETER – TP 875/HD 2307.0K

HD 2307.0K Thermometer, Pt100 sensor for input of probes equipped with SICRAM module, measuring range –200°C +650°C. Storage of maximum, minimum, average value. Functions: REL, HOLD and auto power off which can be disabled, IP 67 protection degree. Equipped with TP875 Globe-Thermometer probe for radiant heat measurements.

BABUC-m Environmental monitoring station

Measures parameters that, taken as a whole, define the quality of an environment from the thermal, sound, and luminosity. The range includes a large variety of sensors and PC programmes for processing and storing acquired data, such as that for calculating the principal thermal comfort indices (moderate environments) and thermal stress indices (hot and cold environments). BABUC is a portable instrument for quickly taking measurements and, optionally, measurements with data logging

EQUIPMENT TO MEASURE THERMAL RESISTANCE AND THERMAL TRANSMITTANCE OF BUILDING ELEMENTS BY IN SITU MEASUREMENTS

EQUIPMENT TO MEASURE THERMAL RESISTANCE

This measurement system is used for analysis of thermal resistance and thermal transmittance of building elements by in-situ measurement. It can be used for measurements according to ISO 9869 and ASTM C1155 / C1046 standards. The system is equipped with two heat flux sensors as well as two pairs of matched thermocouples for differential temperature measurements.

 

Specifications

BLOWER DOOR EQUIPMENT

Blower door with large calibrated fan that is temporarily mounted in a house door to measure the “leakiness” of the house and to assist in finding the location of the leaks. Incorporates variable speed fan so that the pressure in the house can be adjusted, and they also has door-mounting frames so that the fan can be sealed tightly into the door jamb. In order to measure the leakiness of the house, the blower door measures both the air flow through the fan and the pressure difference between the house inside and outside.

Alnor Electronic Balometer

The Alnor Electronic Balometer uses thermal anemometry to measure volumetric flow. Used for determining air flow through ducts, openings etc., in order to determine ventilation rate, air change and effectiveness of ventilating systems.
